Scouts
Hundreds of boys and more recently, girls have been through Florida Sea Scouts since the
late 1940's, having fun, learning important life skills and forging life long friendships.
Many have gone on to achieve great sporting success especially in sailing and canoeing.
FLSS has produced some of South Africa's top canoeists and 2 sailors that have completed
the Cape to Rio sailing race. A few have gone on to achieve the highest award in scouting,
the Springbok award.
Over 250 million Scouts have been invested since Robert Baden-Powell started
the Scout Movement in 1907. Today there are more than 16 million members
in over 150 countries and territories. About 60 000 are members of the South
African Scout Association (SASA).
One of the greatest strengths of the Scout Movement is its success in
developing leadership qualities in boys and girls - achieved by organising Cubs
and Scouts into small groups, each usually six to eight in size. These are
called Sixes for Cubs and Patrols for Scouts, led by a Sixer and Patrol Leader
(PL) respectively.
If you are interested in learning the skills involved in sailing by the power of the wind, hiking and camping
